Interdisciplinary Center for Electron Microscopy
ICEM labs are located in Briggs Hall and Kemper Hall with a major emphasis on Analytical Electron Microscopy (micro analysis) in material, biological and environmental sciences. ICEM is a 24/7 multi user recharge facility requiring all new users to register with ICEM. The vision and goal of ICEM is to embrace and support a multi disciplinary user base of students (undergraduate, graduate), post doc and faculty researchers at UC Davis. The facility also offers our users a variety of sample preparation equipment, a light microscopy lab with image analysis, an xray lab, and a materials testing lab. ICEM also supports numerous lab classes in Engineering.

Access to ICEM Laboratories
Access to the ICEM labs is by user registration by contacting the laboratory manager. Registration is done by completing the ICEM New User Form complete with your PI signature and 7 character DaFis account number. Return the new user form to the laboratory manager to schedule equipment specific training and site specific safety training. A 24/7 door code and chms-ad login account will be requested after the new user registers.
Service Work
ICEM labs will do service work for PIs, students and off site commercial customers. In addition to running samples on the ICEM instruments our staff can provide a range of additional services:
-Sample prep (bio and materials; chemical processing, microtomy, staining, etc)
-Metallography (preparing mounts, grinding, polishing)
-Metallography (preparing mounts, grinding, polishing)
Recharges
Rates for users are assisted, unassisted and service. Service rates are for outside commercial customers. Assisted rates are for users who need assistance and include training. Unassisted rates are for users who operate recharge equipment independently. All training is done at the assisted rate. Rates for sample preparation only are also listed below.
Rates currently are as follows:
| Rate Name | Rate, $/hr |
|---|---|
| XRD - unassisted | $15.00 |
| XRD - assisted | $63.00 |
| XRD - commercial | $197.00 |
| CM12, XL30 - unassisted | $31.00 |
| CM12, XL30 - assisted | $73.00 |
| CM12, XL30 - commercial | $198.00 |
| All JEOL EMs - unassisted | $47.00 |
| All JEOLEMs- assisted | $82.00 |
| All JEOL EMs- commercial | $297.00 |
| Sample prep rate, UC customers | $67.00 |
| Sample prep rate, non-UC customers | $87.00 |
